Review here means one thing: checking every factual claim against the primary California source that sets it, then recording the date of that check next to the figure. We make no claim that anyone on this site holds a California notary public commission, a law license, or any other credential. The authority this page stands on is the verification process below, not a credential.
CA Notary Prep is not the California Secretary of State, is not affiliated with the Secretary of State or with CPS HR Consulting, and does not sell the approved education course that California requires before you sit the exam. That independence is the point: nothing on this site is written to route you into a course seat.
How the facts are sourced
The subject of this site is one credential: the California notary public commission, whose exam is administered by CPS HR Consulting under the California Secretary of State. Because the scope is a single state, there is no third-party compiled table to lean on and no reason to use one. Our primary sources are the Secretary of State's own notary pages and the current California Notary Public Handbook, plus the statutes those documents cite.
Practice questions are written from the public handbook and cite the handbook or code section they test. Fees, timelines, and the statutory bond amount are read off the official source directly, and each row on the cost and timeline page carries the source it came from and the date we checked it.
We separate two kinds of numbers and label them everywhere they appear. An official figure is set by the state, by the Secretary of State's fee schedule or by statute, and is printed as an exact number. A market-set figure, such as the price of the approved course, the surety bond premium, Live Scan rolling fees, errors-and-omissions insurance, or a seal and journal, is set by vendors and is shown as a range. We do not invent a single number for a price we cannot promise, and we do not fold those bands into any computed statistic.
How it stays current
Every page carries a visible date. A published figure that passes 90 days since its last check is queued for another pass against the Secretary of State source, and rows we already know need a fresh look against the current handbook are flagged in our own data file rather than quietly left alone. Where the underlying source changes, the figure and its date change with it.
The statistics page is this site's own original data study of the California commission process. Every number on it is computed at build time from that same sourced data file, so it is never hand-typed and never drifts away from the table it came from.
