About CA Notary Prep

CA Notary Prep is an independent study resource for the California notary public commission, built to be fast, honest, and free of ads and upsells. California only.

Why this site exists

If you have searched for how to become a California notary, you have met the same thing we did: page after page of course-marketing wrapped in ad units, all steering you to a checkout and none of them just telling you, plainly, what it costs, how long it takes, and how hard the exam really is. We built the site we wished existed. It runs no ads, sells no course, and answers the questions the sellers answer badly because an honest answer, like "the loan-signing market is saturated," does not sell a course.

Quick answer

Is CA Notary Prep affiliated with the California Secretary of State?

No. CA Notary Prep is an independent project of Urban Algorithm LLC, not the Secretary of State, not an SOS-approved education vendor, and not a notary association. It sells no course and takes no side, so it names the Secretary of State and CPS HR Consulting only to describe the real process, never to imply an official relationship.

Who operates this site

CA Notary Prep is a project of Urban Algorithm LLC, an independent software studio and the publisher of this site. We are not the California Secretary of State (SOS), we are not one of the SOS-approved notary education vendors, and we do not sell or substitute for the required six-hour education course. The exam is administered by CPS HR Consulting under the Secretary of State; every real determination, your eligibility, your score, and your commission, is theirs, not ours. You can reach the publisher through the Urban Algorithm contact page.

How we source what we publish

Two kinds of content carry the site, and both are held to a plain standard.

What we do not do

Freshness

Every figure on the site carries the date it was last checked against the official Secretary of State source, and that date is visible where the figure appears. When the Secretary of State publishes a new handbook edition or the exam vendor changes a fee, we re-verify the affected numbers against the primary source.
